FRIDAY ARVO SURF UPDATE FRIDAY 19 JANUARY

Hi Surfers,

How has your week been? Full of surf I hope. There as been waves around all over the place. Even the northeast Coast has had swell all week. West Coast surfers have had a great week. The Nationals have been blessed with waves all week. The written coverage from Ben Kennings (the hard working PR guy for Surfing NZ) has been informative and interesting.

If you are feeling a bit cultured or in the need of a bit of culture, head to the Aotea Gallery in Auckland and check out some cool as New Zealand artist's work. I know two of them surf. In fact Darryn has been a contributor to surf.co. Check out their work at the gallery or have a look on line at Darryns art by clicking right here....

LATEST NEWS

The Hyundai 2007 Nationals have good waves all week in the Taranaki. Today is no different with good waves again at Puniho Rd south of Oakura. We have had an upset with Jay Quinn knocked out of the Open Mens semi's yesterday. Interestingly there is only one full time longboarder left in the open longboard final yet to be contested.

Still heaps of semis to get through plus all finals are on call. The comp will finish this weekend.

The third and final wildcard will be awarded to the winner of the Quiksilver Pro Trials contested by a field of 16 qualifying and invited surfers. Guess who is in the line up... Maz Quinn. What does this mean about his upcoming year?

WEATHER SITUATION

What a great looking summer type map today. We have a high dominating and is sitting on top of the Country. There are two lows to the north and northeast. We have a low to the east of the North Island. There is quite a deep low way under the Chathams. Looking good for waves over the weekend.
